The American West Part 6: The animals

We left The Old Faithful Inn early next morning and I was sorry to be leaving Yellowstone but June had more mixed feelings about the Park. While I was attracted to the geology and scenery, June showed more concern over the ravages of recent forest fires and the untouched legacy of abandoned, dead, lodgepole pines.
This section is a record of many of the animals that we saw during our trip. Perhaps the most exciting was the sighting of a grizzly bear foraging close to the roadside in Yellowstone.

Two young Black Bears spotted at Bear Country, a sort of American West safari park.

Other animals seen there included a lynx,

elk,

wolf,
badgers,
coyote,

 red fox,

and otters.

In the wild, particularly in Yellowstone, we saw buffalo,

wandering in car parks,

and even outside our bedroom window.

These elk seemed quite at home in Mammoth Hot Springs.

Finally, at Mt. Rushmore we found a squirrel.
